LGBT for Straight People. Which would you rather have? The flu or HIV?

The folks at CNS News, whose purpose is to provide us with information that the liberal media withholds, are questioning the amount of money spent on HIV programs versus the amount of money spent on influenza.

“CNSNews.com – The federal government spent $6.1 billion on influenza-related programs in 2006, less than half as much as the $13.7 billion dollars it spent on HIV/AIDS programs that year, according to figures provided to CNSNews.com by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).”

LGBT Lessons for Straight People: So Simple a Child “Gets” It

Even straight people who support gay rights can struggle with what to tell their children about gay relationships. We’re barely comfortable talking about straight relationships. And for many straight people, sex is front and center, covering up the real person.

Let me tell you about my friend at work. Last fall, there was a movement to send postcards to Obama, asking him to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, DOMA. I bought forty postcards, addressed and stamped them, then sent an email to folks at work that I knew support gay rights. This is a dear friend. She comes to me and says “Tomorrow I will let you know how many postcards I need.” Ok.

Ms. California to Keep the Crown in spite of Satan

Ms. California, Carrie Prejean, recently spoke out on Dobson’s “Focus on [White Anglo-Saxon Protestant Heterosexual] Family” about the question posed by Perez Hilton during the Miss USA pageant stating:

“I felt as though Satan was trying to tempt me in asking me this question.”

But what is the question that Perez Hilton, as Satan’s tempter, posed to Prejean?

“Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage,” he said. “Do you think every state should follow suit, why or why not?”

Police Raid Lesbians’ Home with Derogatory Comments

Over the past several months, the San Antonio Texas Police Department has come under scrutiny for abuses to LGBT people. This comes as no surprise considering their history – including incidents involving yours truly.

The latest episode involves an “anonymous” tip from a neighbor of a lesbian couple indicating the two women had a meth lab in their home. Although untrue, police were able to secure a warrant and entered the couple’s home by knocking the door down on April 28, 2009.

Mother’s Day – A Homo’s Tale

We all know that gay people go through a coming out process. Most gay, lesbian and bisexual children go through a long period where they aren’t sure how to express their sexuality. They are afraid to confide this information in anyone, particularly their parents. Some opinions indicate that this fear to “come out” revolves around self-loathing; that the gay child dislikes that he/she is gay and is embarrassed to reveal the truth. However, the fear of societal rejection is what prevented me from jumping out of the closet for many years.

When I was very young, it was obvious that my family suspected something. My mother would often make comments like, “I love my children, no matter what. I’d love them even if they were gay.”

NOM Board Member Supports Overthrow of Governments that Support Equality

Famed science fiction author, Orson Scott Card, joined the Board of Directors for the National Organization for [Heterosexual Only] Marriage back in April. That’s no big surprise considering Mr. Card’s history of anti-gay rhetoric; however, the big surprise is that Mr. Card has written words that seem contrary to NOM’s “Main Message.” According to NOM’s website, another aspect of their “Main Message” is thus:

“Gays and Lesbians have a right to live as they choose; they don’t have a right to redefine marriage for the rest of us.”

LGBT Lessons for Straight People: Where Do Babies Come From?

Even down under, a topic related to gay folks can cause quite a stir.

The Daily Telegraph in Australia reported on May 4th that

…a book which teaches children about lesbian mums getting pregnant using sperm donors is being pitched at kids as young as two. The controversial publication, ‘Where Did I Really Come From?’, also features a drawing of two gay men holding a baby in a chapter about surrogacy.

The publisher’s marketing spruiks the book, which includes in-depth descriptions of sexual intercourse, as suitable to be read to two-year-olds. It was being advertised at some Sydney book stores and inside the cover as being part of the New South Wales Attorney General Office’s Learn to Include program, the Daily Telegraph reported today.

NOM Accuses LGBT Activists of Bribing New Hampshire Legislature

Just when you thought it was safe to turn on your T.V., the National Organization for [Heterosexual Only] Marriage has released another television ad. The new ad targets New Hampshire Governor Lynch for his change of heart on gay marriage and makes the outlandish suggestion that gay activists bribed the New Hampshire legislature.

Although NOM’s poll numbers continue to decline, they insist on using lies and deception to attempt to convince moderates to come to their side. By their own admission on their website, NOM indicates that whenever they say “ban gay marriage” they “lose about ten percentage points in the polls.”

Kay Bailey Hutchison Says No to Civil Rights (not just gays either!)

The Senator from Texas, who hopes to win over voters and become the next Governor of Texas in 2010, has a history of voting against legislation regarding civil equality. In fact, the ACLU scores the senator at only 25% when it comes to her voting record on civil rights, the Human Rights Campaign scored her at 0%, and the NAACP scored her at only 18%. Here’s a snippet of her record:

Voted YES on constitutional ban of same-sex marriage. (S. J. Res. 1)
Voted NO on adding sexual orientation to definition of hate crimes. (S. 625, 2002 and S.2549, 2000)
Voted YES on ending special funding for minority & women-owned business.(S.1173, 1997)
