Gay Student Beaten Because Administrators Ignored Pleas for Help
I don’t expect a lot from our public school system, particularly in Texas where they teach to the test. However, this takes the cake for irresponsibility.
Jayron Martin, a 16 year old freshman at Langham Creek High School, was told by a friend that a group of kids were going to attack him. He advised the administration and was told they would call the group into the office, but they didn’t.
Jayron shared a bus with the group threatening him and advised the bus driver of the situation. When Jayron got off the bus, the group chased him. In fleeing for his life, Jayron ran into a neighbor’s home, the attackers followed and one of the teens began beating him with a metal pipe. The beating lasted about 7 minutes. The neighbor came down stairs with a shotgun and threatened the attacker, but he kept beating Jayron – until the neighbor cocked the gun.
Jayron’s attacker is now being charged within the juvenile court system with charges of aggravated assault.
Jayron’s mother, Lakenya, told KHOU: “I’m disgusted. I’m sorry, after the fact, doesn’t do it. The school district let us down. I mean, let all of us down because it could have been any one’s kid.” But it wasn’t any one’s kid, it was Lakenya Martin’s son. She has to fight this battle now – will you fight with her, or wait until it’s your child?

You have to remember that there is two sides to every story. This so called "victim" of a horrible hate crime was not just beaten because he was gay. Jayron was not the homosexual we see on the news that keeps his views to himself and doesn't try to call attention to his sexual orientation. Jayron Martin was known in the school as a "flamer." The underlying reason for the assault was, Jayron stole a girl's phone; posing as another student's girlfriend requested sexually explicit pictures from her boyfriend. The other student was led to believe that he was sending the pictures to his girlfriend. Upon receiving these explicit pictures Jayron forwarded the pictures to his homosexual friends. Several things were wrong in this story, "the metal pipe" was in fact, just the flimsy thin sign promoting a homeowner's preferred mayoral candidate. Its not like the assaultant had a crowbar. I am not saying that beating up Jayron was the right thing to do, but I have to step in and show the facts that have been excluded from the report" this story is being portrayed purely as a hate-crime, when clearly, there are other factors.
Flamer, photos or not – the fact remains that the administration did not step in and attempt to help Jayron. You'll note this article never refers to the crime as a "hate crime" or "bias crime" and only refers to Jayron's sexual orientation in the title. In fact, there isn't even a claim that the administration ignored him because of his sexual orientation. The purpose was merely a look at the failure of the administration (and the bus driver) to help when a student was pleading for that help.
Thank you for the information. I'm so sad to see this portion of your comment, "Jayron was not the homosexual we see on the news that keeps his views to himself and doesn't try to call attention to his sexual orientation."
If you (or anyone else) think for a moment that people don't have a right to display their sexual orientation, I suggest you start demanding heterosexuals remove their wedding rings and stop holding hands in public.
