Yesterday marked the beginning of the 82nd Texas legislative session.  To welcome the new legislature, Queer Texas United organized a Homophobia and Transphobia Kills Die-In at the front gate of the Capitol Building in Austin.  The purpose of the Die-In was to support anti-bullying legislation.  The Texas Senate has introduced two bills with respect to…

Gay Activists to Use Protests of Arizona Victim’s Funeral as Anti-Violence Fundraiser

The Westboro Baptist Church (“WBC”), under the guidance of the Reverend Fred Phelps, has dedicated substantial time and resources in making the United States a living hell.  Not only has the church spread hate-filled messages against the LGBTQ community to the masses, they have also attacked the United States as a whole because of its…

This morning Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head by a gunman at a Safeway grocery store during a Congress at your Corner event. ATTENTION PERSONS MARRIED UNDER DC LAW – YOUR MARRIAGE MAY BE NULLIFIED!

As you may recall, Mark Reed-Walkup and Dante Walkup were married this past October. Their marriage was officiated via Skype by a person authorized to perform marriages by the District of Columbia, who was physically in DC at the time of the service. Mark and Dante decided to conduct their vows in their home state so that family and friends could be in attendance without the significant costs and problems of flying everyone to DC.

Stupid Things People Say About Gays: TSA Infultrated by Homosexuals who like to Pat People Down

In light of the controversy surrounding the new extensive pat downs and body scanning by TSA, much ado has been made about a traveler’s privacy. Reports are out that the body scans have resulted in searches because of feminine hygiene products and colostomy bags, but leave it to the right-wing to blame the new policies on the gays.

Stupid Things People Say About Gays – Anti-Gay Pastor James Manning Admits Homosexual Fantasies?

James Manning, a Pentecostal minister in New York who is no stranger to controversial statements, recently recorded a rant in which he interpreted God’s loving words as follows: “It is time now for those of us who know the truth to stand up and push back against this homosexual lesbianly LGBT agenda, and those are the correct alphabet. It is time for us to stand up and declare that homosexuality is not normal, it is abnormal.”

Will Glee Get Away with Transphobic Remark? Yeah, Probably.

Last night, Fox Network’s show Glee took on the challenge of a Rocky Horror tribute. As a Gleek and a Rocky fan, I was excited to see the show, particularly to get to see who had the great honor of dressing up as Dr. Frankfurter. I was pleasantly surprised by Finn (played by Cory Monteith) dressed up as Brad and playing the awkward, but surprisingly attractive dork we’ve all come to love. Perhaps more surprising was Mike Chang’s (Harry Shum, Jr.) offer to play the famed Dr. Frankfurter.

Wearing Purple Just Isn’t Enough – Wear Fabulous!

Tonight, I headed off to my closet to find something purple to wear tomorrow. I was rummaging through every article of clothing and every corner, including the winter boxes, desperate to answer the Facebook call to wear purple on October 20, 2010 to raise awareness about the LGBT Youth Suicide Epidemic and bullying.

HRC’s Eric Alva Speaks about DADT and Obama’s Defense of Policy

Marine Staff Sgt. Eric Alva (Ret.) was the first American wounded in the war in Iraq when, on March 21, 2003, while traveling to Basra, he stepped on a land mine. In 2006, Sgt. Alva began working with the Human Rights Campaign, the “largest” LGBT Rights organization, to speak out against the military’s now (but likely temporarily) halted “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy (DADT). He now tours nationally for the organization and continues to lecture about DADT.

Obama, DADT, DOMA and the War on LGBT People.

Lamar Smith (R-TX), a member of the House Judiciary Committee and the U.S. House of Representatives – and my district’s representative – has asked the court to let him, and not the Obama administration’s Department of Justice (DoJ), appeal the ruling in Commonwealth of Massachusetts v. US Dept. of Health and Human Services, et al., striking down key provisions of the unconstitutional Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
