ABC News recently aired filmed “What Would You Do?” In it, ABC hired two openly gay male actors, one heterosexual couple and one “gay basher” to go to a local sports bar. The heterosexual couple and homosexual couple agreed to show affection toward one another and gauge the crowds reaction.
San Jose Mercury news is now reporting that 56% (14 out of 25 ) of all hate crimes reported in Santa Clara County California were based upon sexual orientation. This is a significant jump from 2007 with only three of the twenty reported hate crimes being “gay” related.
Three men, two brothers and a cousin, shouted anti-gay slurs at patrons of Robert’s Lafitte and pelted them with rocks. One man, Marc Bosaw, required 12 staples to close the wounds. Another man was hit in the jaw by a rock.
A disproportionate number of hate groups are in the area of the United States commonly referred to as “The Bible Belt.”
Police have found and are questioning the second suspect in the crime committed against José O. Sucuzhañay on December 7, 2008 in Brooklyn. Mr. José Sucuzhañay and his brother were walking arm and arm when Keith Phoenix and Hakim Scott [allegedly] attacked the two men while shouting antigay and anti-Hispanic slurs.
A 32 year old woman, Kristen Boyne, was assaulted on her way to the Rainbow Foods grocery store on Thursday, January 22 by two men using derogatory slurs about Kristen’s sexuality. Kristen survived the attack with a severe concussion and was treated at Hennepin County Medical Center and later released.
A 44 year old Bolingbrook, IL man was charged with aggravated battery and a hate crime after beating up a 15 year old boy while making derogatory remarks about the juveniles sexuality. The boy, who had apparently gone to the house to visit a friend, refused medical treatment; however, he did report the assault to his mother who contacted the police.
