Yesterday, the judge and lawyers assembled in the courtroom at 8:24 a.m. Pacific Time to debate, and ultimately decide, upon the rights of same-sex couples to marry. The case, Perry v. Schwarzenegger, resulted after a “majority” of California voters decided that the judicial granting of equal marital rights to same-sex couples violated their sense of… uhm… of… well, ego.
Since the trial started (and even before) we’ve heard the opponent’s of equality claiming that the majority spoke and such majority rule must be honored. In fact, the news keeps repeating an annoying little phrase whenever they talk about the case, referring to Proposition 8 as a “voter approved” measure.

The trial that may repeal the disgustingly discriminatory Proposition 8 in California (which denies couples of the same sex from entering into the civil contract of marriage) begins January 11, 2010. With that trial will come many “stupid things” that people say about gays. The opposition will be presenting their ridiculous arguments (including one where they claim gay marriage will result in children having sexual fantasies about their same-sex friends). Thus, it’s a proper time to start the Proposition 8 Series for Stupid Things People Say About Gays.

For those that may not be familiar with Bilerico.com, essentially, it is an LGBT blog community which reports on issues relevant to our community. The Bilerico Project has over 80 contributors/editors and alumni including some of the most respected names in the LGBT rights movement like, Donna Rose, Jillian T. Wise, David Badash, Joe Solomenese, Kip Williams, Kate Clinton and many, many more. Their list includes the L, the G, the B and the T and reads as a who’s who in the equality movement. Many authors there are my friends, many have been guests on Closet Talk and I always value their opinions and ideas.

According to recent news reports, Tarlach MacNiallais, 47, a prominent LGBT activist was tackled and beaten by a bouncer at the Guadalajara De Noche restaurant in Jackson Heights, New York. According to reports, MacNiallais was beaten because he was dancing with a man.
MacNiallais has indicated that the bouncers approached him during the dance and advised him that he could not “do that here,” because, the Guadalajara De Noche restaurant, “is not a gay bar.”
The attack ensued when MacNiallais retorted, “I have just as much right as anyone else.” The bouncer tackled MacNiallais and even hit him with a chair – a response that seems appropriate for the crime of dancing with someone of the same sex [insert sarcasm here].

The controversy surrounding Adam Lambert’s American Music Awards’ kiss hasn’t ceased. In fact, it continues to escalate as person after person calls in complaint after complaint saying they just don’t want to see gays having sex on television.
Of course, Adam and his kissing buddy didn’t have sex on television, they simply shared a passionate kiss. It should come as no surprise that television watchers don’t care to see gay people smooching – particularly considering that even the smallest displays of affection have resulted in forceful detainment, harassment and outright bigotry of same-sex couples over the past several months.

After the National Equality March, I posted a video compilation on “Why We Marched”. The video can be seen here. I’m growing horrifying accustomed to hateful rhetoric and commentary, but a comment on this video really caught my attention. First, because it was full on inaccuracies about what Obama has and has night signed. Second, because the God argument was invoked – which, after the comment, you will see why I find it so amusing.

Recently, District Judge Tena Callahan ruled that Texas’ courts do have jurisdiction to hear a suit for divorce filed by a same-sex couple married outside of the state. The problem arose because over 3/4′s of voters in Texas (the state that ranked 39th that same year in education), agreed with a ban on same-sex marriage. – but no one ever voted on same-sex divorce.
Of course, even the granting of a divorce has (perhaps oddly) infuriated those opposed to gay marriage. This outrage over the granting of a divorce directly contradicts those opposed to gay marriage.

Carrie Prejean recently claimed that God chose her to stand up for her Christian values which include reducing human rights to theocratic laws. But Carrie Prejean, in spite of all the stupid things she’s said about the gays, is not the subject of this Stupid Things People Say About Gays.
Instead, it’s one of her supporters, “ES165,” who wrote this in response to Carrie’s push for theocracy:
“She [Carrie Prejean] simply disagrees with one of the most vengeful, hateful segments of our population. This is not her story, it’s about how hypocritical the extreme left and gay population are. Their relentless attacks are totally despicable.”

Today, I opened up one of my favorite blogs in my feed, Foolocracy to discover something I’d missed. My instincts were to smack myself in the head and declare myself a bad gay blogger for letting this wonderfully perfect “Stupid Thing People Say About Gays” nearly slip past me. But instead of focusing on my inadequacies, I thought I would first give Glenn Church, author at Foolocracy, a few praises. He is an exceptional political blogger and I always find his humor and insight refreshing.

The Promise Metropolitan Community Church, along with 4 other churches in North Texas are sponsoring a Pro-Gay billboard campaign where they are using snippets of Biblical text to show that Jesus would not discriminate.
The billboards have sparked outrage from many other Christian organizations for their use of the scripture to support love and tolerance rather than spawn more hatred, hostility and murders.
